Neoenergia is promoting an energy revolution in Fernando de Noronha, with an initiative in partnership with the federal government, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), and the state government of Pernambuco.

A new sustainable chapter for Fernando de Noronha!

Neoenergia is joining forces with the Federal Government, the State Government of Pernambuco and the local community of Fernando de Noronha to implement the More for Noronha initiative, which involves technology, the environment and education.

The aim is to implement renewable energy generation, eliminate overloads in the electricity system and raise awareness about the efficient use of energy among the local population and tourists. The project seeks to show that energy is not just electricity, it is what drives people to protect, care for and ensure that the natural beauty of Fernando de Noronha continues to be preserved.

With this in mind, the company has been operating in the archipelago since 2009, setting up a complete clean energy infrastructure, which includes a solar power plant, a fleet of electric vehicles, electro-posts and intelligent public lighting. The result is a pioneering model of sustainable development for tourist destinations, promoting well-being, innovation and environmental responsibility.

Why the More for Noronha project?

With a land area of 18,609 km², Fernando de Noronha is home to 16 beaches and its small urban area is home to residential villages, health facilities, education and a whole infrastructure that enables human survival, integrating a considerable tourism production chain, the main source of income for the Noronha community. Over the years, Neoenergia has been investing in the island's sustainability. The program also includes sustainable mobility actions, technological innovation and incentives for distributed microgeneration.

With the increase in tourism and urbanization, the demand for energy and transport has grown considerably. This pressure has brought challenges such as increased consumption of fossil fuels, CO₂ emissions and environmental impact.

The Mais por Noronha project is a direct response to these challenges. By investing in electric mobility and solar generation, Neoenergia ensures that the archipelago remains in harmony with the environment, preserving the landscape, the fresh air and the tranquillity that make Noronha a unique destination.

The projects developed by the company on the island reinforce the company's commitment to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The work in progress is related to SDG 7 (clean and affordable energy), 9 (innovation industry and infrastructure), 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and 17 (partnerships and means of implementation).
